Lessons can only be booked by agents and direct guests for dates where rates are present. We can manage the amount our guests (and agents) pay using rates and price adjustments.

Seasonality

In order to maximise revenue over peak season and maximise bookings when resorts are less busy many ski schools have rates that vary through the winter season. It is possible to put in different rates for the different periods but the easiest way to manage is to have a single set of rates for the whole winter and then manage seasonality with price adjustments.

Our example ski school will have rates that are 20% cheaper than peak season for early December and March. We will also have rates that are 10% cheaper than peak through January and February, but only for our PM Privates lessons and Full Day Guiding.

To set this up first we enter our highest rate for the whole winter season, for each product:

Navigate  →  Product Setup  →  Rates

We have chosen our Private Ski – Full Day Product and added our peak season price for the whole of winter 2017/2018, adding a rate for lessons 1-14 days in duration. Next we will add for all our other product in the same way.

Once this is done we can add our price adjustments to manage seasonality, to do this we

Navigate  →  Product Setup  →  Price Adjustments

We have chosen to add the below adjustments, but adjustments can be set up however you like in order to best model your rates:

1st – 20th December 20% discount all products

10th January – 28th Febraury 10% discount PM Privates lessons and Full Day Guiding only

1st – 31st March 20% discount all products

Checking Rates on the Price Calculator Page

The best place to check that our rates and price adjustments are setup correctly is via the Price Calculator:

Navigate  →  Bookings  →  Price Calculator

In the example above we can see our rates for a 10 day lesson from 16th December, the first 5 days fall into our December discount period are discounted 20%.

A note about products which have different price every day, an example would be a product which is priced at 1 day lesson – 10,000 yen, 2 day lesson – 18,000 yen, 3 day lesson 24,000 yen. When price adjustments are calculated they use the pro rated price for the lesson of that duration. Looking at examples, with our example product and 20% discount until the 20th December:

2 days from 20th would give: (18,000/2)-20% + (18,000/2) = 16,200 yen

3 days from the 19th would give: (24,000/3)-20% + (24,000/3)-20% + (24,000/3) = 20,800 yen

3 days from the 20th would give (24,000/3)-20% + (24,000/3) + (24,000/3) = 22,400 yen

It is also possible to do much more with price adjustments and you can also apply adjustments to agents commissions, you can see more on these items via the links below:
